Iceland Gold coin found at market

Hey everyone,

I got lucky today. I found this gold coin that a lady was selling. She had no idea what it was.

My question is grade. How would you grade this ?

Also it seems to me to have a small die crack but then again I have been shot down here so many times

Itīs a 22 K. 10 thousand were made and they are highly collectable here in Iceland.

Could this be a die crack ? the line is higer then the coin eria.

Congrats! It does look like a die crack, except that it goes in a circle?

Is the "die crack" raised or incuse? If it is raised it could be a die crack. But, like Noost said, it is unusual for a die crack to be circular. I'm thinking it may be a strike-through of a piece of lint or something similar. And if is a strike-through it would be incuse.

Edit

I should say it is unusual for a die crack to be circular with that small of a radius. Die cracks through the stars partially or all the way around the coin (i.e., circular) ane not uncommon. But the radius us much larger than that on your coin.

Looks like AU or better. It's hard to tell from the pic if any of the luster is worn off the high areas. Nice find.

Hi Siggi
I am also Icelandic but living here in the US and I collect Icelandic coins. I would assume that this coin never was in circulation but may have been if it was then it would have some wear on the high points of the coin and it then would be only worth the content of its gold if not then its worth about $300 and up depending on its grade. And as far as that being a die crack is highly unlikely it would think if it is raised that the die was damaged at some point when the die was cleaned, every once in a while they would take the die out to be cleaned of any dirt and grease that may have gotten on the dies. I hope this helped you. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about Icelandic coin . I also enjoyed your post on the MD forum as well.
