What did PCGS grade this 1921 Standing Liberty Quarter??

Anyone want to hazard a guess? You might be surprised

This picture is what it looks like in hand %100. The coin has some luster present.

Well since you put in that way, my guess is that the incredibly weak strike along with the ugly patina which is completely muting the luster is making this MS61 look like an AU coin.

 

I suspect Lehigh is correct, but I'll go a bit more conservative in my guess -- AU 55.

 

LOL - the first two are probably correct, but I am going to say AU50 because of the banged up knees.

 

I was going to guess AU58, but since you said you might be surprised I'll say MS62, that's gotta' be one heck of a weak strike.

 

I just can't bring myself to go higher than xf-40.

 

The scratch on the eagle's wing... is that on the holder or the coin?

 

it is on the coin.

 

That should be body bagged, bit overwise It's not better than an XF45 - and I wouldn't grade it even that.

It appears as Au-58, but probably market graded as MS-62.

I'm going to say AU58, that would surprise me...
Some wear is present, so I don't know exactly how it could get a Mint State grade, if that is what you mean be you might be surprised...

I agree with desert gem and graded MS62. Almost similar situation to a previous post discussing an 1883 O Morgan with the surface condition. But once again, My crystal ball is a bit fuzzy these days . Underneath that surface , is probably some nice luster.

 

I'm going to say AU55. It looks like the high points have a couple small rubs on them.

Why should it be body bagged? I don't see any evidence of damage to the coin. I don't find the toning attractive...but I don't see anything that would make this coin upgradable.

 

Even accounting for the ugliness, I can't see this coin as getting higher than an AU-58

 

My inexperienced opinion looks about EF-40.

I am going to have to say XF-45.

 

AU-50?, but that is one ugly AU.

 

AU55, I see nothing that would have it "bagged"
