I made a trip to my favorite coin shop today. I spent almost two hours looking through their inventory and eventually made a handful of low dollar purchases. Over the next couple of days I will post photos of my purchases. Here are some photos of one of my favorite buys of the day: Obverse: Reverse: It is a 1916-A German occupied territories 1 Kopek coin. I think it grades at AU. There is a weak strike on the obverse at about five o'clock. What do you German collectors out there think?
I like it a lot, lovely condition and Berlin mint mark I dont have a 1k but I do have a 2k here is mine :hail: Again Berlin Mint, any one have any from another mint?
That´s a nice 1 Kopek! I have all the three military Kopek coins issued for use in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Russia, but none of them in such an excellent quality! My 3 Kopek:
Kvarterto, What is that faint "ring" visible on both sides of your three Kopek? Is that a die crack? Planchet flaw? BTW, thanks for sharing!
O.M.G. Last night I purchased the first five German Military coins in my collection. The most expensive was your 1 Kopek! Quite the coincidence that we both bought the same coin. Here is a photo of mine. I'll photograph the other four now. Very best regards, collect89
These are the last two. Am I correct in labeling them all Germany (Notgeld) ? Very best regards, collect89
I think the equivalent to Notgeld produced during the war is referred to as "Kriegsgeld" (literally "war money"). These coins were authorized by individual German states and/or cities to circulate in place of national coinage in a time of shortage. I also think that the Kopek issues were authorized by the German military which kind of puts them in a seperate category from Notgeld. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
I really like your Dueren city 10 Pfennig. It has a really nice look with the lighter steel-colored high points and darker background. It really makes the image and writing "pop". I am definitely going to be in the market for one of those babies!
Here are a couple more that I have :smile 1917 Stadt Hagan (capital of the district of Schaumburg, in Lower Saxony) 50pf 1919 Manmheim 10pf
What you write about Stadthagen is right - except this piece is from Hagen, NW. Stadt Hagen = City of Hagen. And yes, all these pieces, except for the "Gebiet des Oberbefehlshabers Ost" coins, are local notgeld issues ... Christian
Thanks AnemicOak der_meister77: i don´t know exactly what it is, but it look like die crack. For some reason i think it´t a nice detail :smile
The German Military kopek coins are relatively difficult to find in rust free condition - they are probably underrated in my opinion.
I liked this puppy for a few reasons. I like the font used for the letter A. I like the puppy I like the number 2 in 1920 (Also, I have fond memories of visiting the area and would stay at the world famous Aachen Holiday Inn). Very best regards, collect89
