Turks and Caicos gold coin

Hello,

I have a coin that was given to me by my father many years ago, and niether of us really know anything about it. It is a gold coin, dated 1988. The Coin has a picture of a lobster and says WWF 25th Anniversary and 100 Crowns. On the reverse it says Queen elizabeth, turks and caicos 1988.

I have not been able to find the coin at all on the internet, and was wondering if you guys could help me identify it? I cannot post a picture at the moment as my camera recently died.

Help appreciated, thanks.

I think you've identified it. It was issued by the Turks and Caicos islands, and is indeed gold (assuming it's real.)

I had one once; it was encased in a soft plastic, attached to a cardboard holder. Is yours like this, or is it loose?

Right now it is in an airtite, I cannot say whether it originally came in any packaging, I was given it when I was young. But do you have any information regarding it? I cannot find anything on the internet in regards to a 100 crown gold coin with a lobster and WWF 25th anniversary written on it....

What kind of information do you want?

WWF is the World Wildlife Fund, in this case.

I can't find much on it either, which isn't uncommon with Turks and Caicos coins, or at least, in my experience.

You might want to borrow (library? friend? coin shop?) a world coin book. It may be listed there. Perhaps another CoinTalk member who has one will look it up for you. Unfortunately, I don't deal much with world coins, so I don't have one.

Should be a 10g gold (Au916.6) coin. More info is available at www.numismaster.com for example (the basic search is free). The 25th anniversary of the WWF was the occasion to rename the fund; it has been the "World Wide Fund for Nature" (except for North America) since then. The gold coin was part of a series; there was also a 1 crown piece in silver and Cu-Ni. What I find a little odd is that this anniversary was in 1986 while this coin is dated 1988 ...

My Mood:
JimmyD,
I'll add
- Mintage is estimated at 5,000 pieces
- As Christian stated in should weigh 10.000 grams and is 91.7% gold equalling .2949 oz. AGW(actual gold weight)
-References include Krause/Mishler#65 and Friedberg #26
