Attribution Challenge for Stainy

Hey Stainy,

Here's one for you to figure out:

I am clueless when it comes to ancients so maybe you will know what it is?

Some late roman bronze minted in Antioch, showing Virtus on reverse. As for the emperor, I can't figure out any legend on obverse...

Sorry Toady..lol..I've been out for a few days

The coin in not fully attributable to the Emperor but it is either Arcadius or Honorius. The reverse reads VIRTUS EXERCITI and is the Victory Crowing Emperor type. The coin was also minted in Antioch.

hope that helps..lol..I had trouble and had to go to the mentor for this one.

Thankies, Ardy!

I broke down and bought a light yesterday to use for pics and I re-did the pics one more time so maybe you'll be able to see it better now?

No matter what anyone says, for a coin that's hundreds and hundreds of years old is worth at least 5 bucks

Pretty cool. I picked up too many ancients for $5 a while back. Their value considering their age is great IMPO. Plus it is great holding a 1500+ year old coin in your hand is great.

Think about all of the history:

minted
bought leather or something like that
same as above
buried
excavated
sold to big coin seller
sold in random lots to collectors
coin is stolen and pawned off
someone purchases it from the pawn shop
they give it their grandson and their grandson sells it to a coin shop
then you purchase it for $5
(J/K)
They have great history LOL! Yeah I know, I am tired and dont make much sense.
