Thumbs down Overpriced Cent rolls

Does anyone else think that $8.99 (plus shipping) for $1.00 worth (two rolls) of the new Lincoln cents from the Mint is a bit overpriced?

I myself purchased all I could get! The reasoning behind it is simple the paper they are wrapped in tell you the mint they were minted at, and U.S. mint. It is my belief that these wraps will help me maintain there value in the future as opposed to the generic wraps you get from the bank. So the question that you might ask is what is your plan for these pennies? Is it your intention to pick the 10 best ones and send them in to be graded? To sell them individually, or maintain the integrity of the roll and sell them in the future?

Oh well, it's the lowest mintage Lincoln cent since the 1955-S. To me the price doesn't matter, I would have even paid more to have them in my collection.

I'm glad I saw this thread - I forgot all about ordering. Oh well, better 39 hours late than never. The site is now showing the rolls are on backorder (of course).

My wife said they were on backorder when she ordered mine at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon. Just as I expected.

Well, yesterday night I decided that I better buy some rolls but I see there is a limit of 5 sets per household so I bought 5 sets. I also bought some other things to average out the S/H better!!

One reason I also decided to buy is because I didn't buy the 2004 nickel rolls and
now look at the price the peace nickels go for!!

I think the price is a bit high for a modern cent, but then I figured if I wanted some, it's not really all that much at all to pay. Afterall, we see nothing wrong with paying over a thousand dollars for an 09 s vdb, which in relative terms is not even really all that rare at all. Not to mention, my bank has already warned me that they don't see getting any 09 cents in the forseeable future. They said they're still sitting boxes and boxes of 07's!

Exactly, why would the mint make a billion of the type 1 09's if banks still have boxes of new 07's and 08's lying around? ....not to mention the glut of cents banks are seeing due to people emptying their stashes in jars because of the economy.

Sounds like you won't order any either. I'm going to bank on these going up in value too much. Maybe I'll miss a great oportunity, but there's always my annual mint set purchase.

I ordered 5 sets myself against my better judgment. The website slowed way down at noon and the order showed as blank, and then backordered until the 19th. I figured I'd give the guys that work for me a roll of each for giving me there wheaties and silver pocket change, look for them in a store near you soon

Well it's a better price than eBay at least. Normally I'd balk at paying $9 for a $1's worth of pennies... but the currency backwash and silly hoarders of these are making these hard to get any other way, and keeping up with my Lincoln cent collection is a tradition with me. So I figure the premium is worth it (for now), unless they become easy to get at face value some time in the future.

I never buy their presidential dollar rolls, because those are easy for me to get at face value. I buy their Kennedy half dollar rolls, because those are almost impossible to get a hold of otherwise. So long as these cents are in the latter category and not the former, I think the mint price is worth it... but if it ever reaches the point I can go to my bank and get these at 50 cents a roll, that's where I'll go to get them.

I am debating this purchase. I hate to jump on the modern hype bandwagon, but don;t want to get left with out any as well.

MINT sealed rolls that is, not the circulation coins. There is a differance in the market, ala the state quarter rolls. I have sealed BANK rolled AZ quarters, but they are the clear shrink wrap thingy's, not those so commonly traded at shows.
