Is it safe ? No. :headbang: Is it reliable? Yes. Reliably bad. :headbang: Has anyone ever done this? Yes. Too many. But few are happy. :headbang:
agreed with everything that 900fine said, but add: shoot yourself instead, less painful and more reliable.
Buying coins from TV is a very bad idea. I've seen coins advertised for 3 times what their worth but people buy them anyway. These shows are great if you like comedies.
All you have to do is buy only when there is a good deal. You won't have to worry about purchasing anything. Ever notice they never mention the weight of any gold coins they sell? Good camera work. They look huge for a 1/10 ounce coin!
Over-hyped and over-priced. Though, sometimes they have some true facts about the coin(s) being sold. Bruce
I alway's check the listings on shopNBC and HSN to see if their coin show's are on when I get off of work. I do a steady 4 X 12 shift and they usually are on at 1 or 2 am. Great to fall asleep to except when I yell at the tv! So many lies! And dont get me started on the "Presidential Commemoratives"! $19.95 + shipping and handling for $2.00 face and some "patented colorization". Gimme a break!
But, but, but "by law these coins can never be made again". Doesn't that automatically make them rare and valuable? :goofer: And with gold at over $800/oz aren't gold-plated State Quarters and Prez Dollar really, really valuable? :rolling: Oh, and doesn't colorizing a coin or painting a politician's picture on a coin make it a highly-sought-after and valuable collectible that will be treasured for generations to come? :kewl:
Have they ever had one of those? Well I guess if you follow that advice you'll be safe, since they will never get any of your money.
Run Please run as fast as you can from TV shooping for coins. Your money would be better spent if you took a match to dollar bills and threw them on the gorund in front of you, at least that way you would stay warm. Ben
Generally stay far, far away from the snake oil TV salesmen. Good advice given thus far. I have only seen one exception. Chastise me if you wish, but I bought the 2009 Lincoln cent auto-ship program from HSN. It's the only time I saw value in what they were offering and probably the only time I'll see them sell anything coin related that was priced fairly. That's probably why it sold out so quickly. So far, I've been pleased with the deal and, as a hard core Lincoln collector, it's made my life simple. I get what I wanted out of the 2009 series without any effort. Here's what I get for each of the four issues: - One P and D ANACS MS-67 graded/slabbed coins - One P and D roll ANACS graded minimum MS-65 - One certificate good for two free ANACS grading of any coin I choose At each billing cycle I pay $49.99 + shipping for all this.
LMAO! You obviously don't change the channel!! You ever see the one that starts "Dateline 9:43 AM...announcing the release of 3,742 of the last Morgan dollars in existance"? They show a beautiful BU coin and say "for just $19.95 you TOO can own one of these rare Morgan dollars in (ahem...fine) TO BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED condition"!!!! I wait for that part in the commercial everytime...the BALLS on these people!! :rolling:
