Exclamation 1920 Great Britain Penny

Hello, I am new to the forums. I'm currently in Iraq waiting to come back home. I have alot of time on my hands over here so i satrted collection coins. A guy back in the states is selling me a 1920 british penny. He says its made of gold not bronze. I've spent a few hours researching the coin, but have not found anything about any of them being made of gold. Any one heard of such a coin?

sarge,

the coin is NOT gold, nor is it rare. your contact is either deeply mistaken or he's trying to rip you off.

hope you get back from iraq soon, safe and sound. and welcome to the forum.

Looks like heavily cleaned and perhaps polished bronze based on the photos.

Very glad you asked. Welcome to CT!

I have just part cleaned (sacrilege) this penny as a comparison for you... it is a 1915 copper penny... made of the same material as the one you are offered. I have a large amount of British Pennies... most of them a brownish colour as they have never been cleaned... Best wishes, Mike.

Infact...tbh mate...the coin you have there isn't even worth a modern day british penny.

Keep posting, and I might have some coins to send ya.

But whatever you do...do not buy that coin.
