Hello. I have a 1925-D Mercury Dime that has a rotation error of approximately 40 degrees on the reverse of the coin. The coin is in good condition. Does anyone have any idea if the rotation error gives it any value beyond the few dollars a coin like this would normally go for?

    Thanks!

Rotation is not unusual at all for Mercs. I don't believe it is worth a premium.

I've got several Mercs rotated even a little more than that,. it's not at all uncommon, once they get to 90 degrees or better they become worth a premium I think.

Your coin is only off about 10 degress CW which is a minor rotation For it to bring a premium it would have to be at least 90 degress which makes it a major rotation any thing under that is considered a minor rotation sorry

No way to know the degree of rotation from the images.
90 degrees sounds right for a premium.

Has anyone ever seen a Merc. with 180 rotation?

Well here's the diagram I use to try an get an accurate reading of the rotation . I can judge by looking at a coin on coin talk ,if it was rotated and give a close reading

There's no such animal a coin could only be rotated the most 180 degress that's the maximum Now come on Freaky why are you asking a question like that read the post above I hope your not freaking out again:goofer:

It is estimated that between 35% and 40% of all Winged Liberty head (Mercury) dimes show some degree of rotated dies.

In fact one way to authenticate the scarce 1916 D is with the degree of rotation. Each of the 1916 D coins depending upon the die pairs has a degree of rotation with each die pair being slightly different.

Very Common, and does not add a premium unless the degree of rotation is huge.

    Thanks,
    Bill

    Hi Tony and Welcome.
May I ask about the images? When the coin was flipped to take the image of the second side, did they keep the same orientation? I'm wondering if the images are a true view of the degree of rotation.

I wonder just how much people would bid on ebay for a coin you listed as a 360 degree rotated coin

    side note:

all of the 1925-D & 1935-D Lincoln Cents I have been looking at lately have this same rotation , somewhere between 10-20%.
