I'd almost bet thats exactly what happened to the majority of the coins listed. That's always my biggest headache when working a show....trying to have eyes on every coin at all times. Hope they find at least some of their coins and catch the people. Guy~
I'm surprised these were sitting out. At the show I just went to, most of the stuff that had any significant value was in portable glass cases and you had to ask to see something. I know that is more of a pain but it's also a lot safer. I don't think anybody had any slabs that you could simply pick up and look at, that were sitting out.
With the quantity taken, it sounds more like an O.J. Simpson situation. Hotel room burglarized, case taken out of car (stupid to leave them there), or some other form of theft and not necessarily at the event itself. Ribbit
Yeah, that's probably more likely. This is quite a few. I thought maybe somebody could have been sneaking around slipping away with one from different tables, but that's quite a few to risk it that many times. What a shame.
I assume that if the thief has any sense (I know this is not necessarily a good assumption), they have been broken out of their slabs by now. It would then be most helpful if we knew what series each coin is/was. Some are spelled out and I think I can figure what the 1909-S VDB is, but 1895-, 1931-S, etc...........
Except for the 1931-S, I'd say they are all Morgans/Peace Dollars if they don't give a denomination. The 1931-S is clearly a Lincoln. :thumb: Ribbit
I agree, thats alot of coins to be stolen from a table at a show of any size. It had to be a theft from someones room or vehicle. This reminds me of a local man (Maryland) who had won millions in the state lottery and toted the money around with him in his car. He had parked his car outside a local adult establishment and a couple stole a briefcase from his car containing $500,000 dollars. The briefcase was later found in the dumpster behind the establishment and the thieves were caught. I hope they catch the person or people who took the coins. Thanks for the info Toad!!
It's a lot safer... and typical (as you mentioned). It's possible these weren't stolen from a dealer's table. Any news ?
Yes, That would be the CA guys, FairTraderz. Have done some buying and selling with them, met in LB. Nice folks, too bad for the theft.
That's them! I didn't post who they were, figured someone here would know about it and pipe up. If the crooks are to be caught, as many peeps as possible need to know about it and that's why I posted it. I've never dealt with them but I had a feeling they were decent peeps. :thumb: Ribbit
Reminds me of the 4 million dollar robbery at the 2007 Orlando Fun Show. The robbers hit the dealer (at knife point) as he was pulling up to his hotel. Have any of these coins ever surfaced?
These coins are goine. they're sitting in some pawn shop or craigs list one at a time. But then again . . . lots of thiefs like this often have little or no brains and are working for someone who knows how to dump them. And if the thief was working for someone else, the thief has put that profit up his nose already. Pitiful. What a world we have.
That's why a lot of dealers ar hiring Brinks trucks for security , who can blame them , but the cost gets passed to the consumer , just hope they catch these a---s . rzage
