I'm collecting the state quarters from circulation and was hoping that someone knows of or has a list of the common errors/varieties to look for. Arizona - Extra Cactus Oklahoma - Extra Wing Wisconsin - Extra Leaf Any others? I have also heard that many of them have rotation errors.
Erwizard, couple of posts on this with some pics on here try the search function with AZ quarter as keywords. Also, e-bay has some good pics as well.
My first post :hail:Hello all I'm new to all of this but have come across a 2000 us state quarter with the r missing in liberty, the o in God and the tr in trust. I've heard of the rust coin, but can't fine anything on this error. Anyone have any suggestions
Also, there are two extra cactus errors identified so far. The one-extra cactus covers just the designer's initials and the two-cactus error covers both the initials and part of the date. From what I can see, there are different varieties in the twoextra cactus coins. Probably, like the Minnesota extra tree.
As far as other state quarter varieties, I own a "Trolling Variety" from a Minnesota state proof. It's ICG and is actually a die break that extnds behind the boat, and it looks like the boat is trolling. Here is a link to the ebay auction I won that has pictures: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=290240049811&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=019
Don't Forget the Rust Quarter from Kansas where there is no T Also the Alaska Bear claw DD with more than 5 claws. I have started to snatch up all 1999 quarters as well because they are becoming more and more rare. selling for about 12.50 a circulated roll
Are there any real varieties (not errors) on State Quarters? I've tried to find a website on US coins which would be similar to this wonderful Russian website http://coins2001.narod.ru, but with no success so far. All of the sites I manage to find concentrate on the few famous "big bucks" errors with very commercial style When I type "variety", I mean coins like the wide AM's on Lincoln cents, not missing edge letterings or die breaks. Something to illustrate my point:
Don't think it has been mentioned yet. The Wyoming state quarter depicts a cowboy riding a bucking bronco. On the saddlehorn of the saddle, there is an extra impression of the tip of the saddlehorn.
This is exactly what I meant, thank you! I have to go and buy lots of new quarters now :eat: I checked a few of mine, and indeed found two clearly differend 1999 P reverses. On the other one the Washingtons ear is longer and goes further below the hair curls on the left, while the other one has them aproximately in line (sorry, my English isn't fluent enough to describe them better). Also, there seems to be a very small difference on the distance of the legends from the edge and the placement of the mint mark. This made the US coins a lot more interesting to me, you may have created a monster
I found an alaskan quarter with missing pupils in the bears eyes, has anyone else seen this variation?
