Look at the scratches on the obverse rim most prominent near 7 o'clock. I suspect the coin was forcefully rubbed up against something. Go get a Lincoln, drop it on a cement floor, and use your foot to drag it across the concrete -- you will get a very similar effect.

I have done it before and it makes the whole coin look that way. I don't think there is any problem (at least not big enough for it not to get slabbed).

First off, nice coin!
Second, if you can get it into PCGS plastic, do it. You have a shot at 65, but you should expect a 64 from either, just because of the scratches.
I think you will be okay for rims and color, but could get BB'd by PCGS for the scratches, imo. I have had slightly better luck with NGC for lincolns and BB's, fwiw.

C'mon guys. Rlm posted this, I think he knows his Lincolns well enough. My only thing is pictures, and I say it is very difficult to go by them. If Rlm says it's gem., I would tend to believe him, he has the coin in hand, we don't.
I just know they are tough in certain areas at times. I have seen 64's better and 66's worse. So, only the graders can decide.
Look at the 69 on another thread......does anybody really think that would ever get a 69 again if sent in raw? Really?

| Yes. I'm saying that because of some of the other images that have been shown of the coin. It's a really special coin.
