As a newbie to this forum, I'm unsure which posts are/aren't appropriate. I'm always looking for two feather buffs. Is it appropriate to post that in here?

Or will I get a bunch of answers like "me too"....

Well, as far as appropriate, it depends:
1) are you looking for info on the variety?
I would post to the nickels or errors forum.
2) looking to buy them? when you have 10 posts you can post to the buy/sell forum.
3) it depends.

Heres an example of a Two Feather Buffalo that I recently sold on Ebay. It sold for $45. I have the feathers circled in my picture, now compare the circled part of my picture to a normal Buffalo.

UM, I learned about the 2 feather variety while reading one of GDJMSPs posts on the subject.
It took me quite a while but I just found the thread that I origionally read about the two feather buffalo nickels.

Im not too sure how common they are. But I did have one out of a whole bunch. And there are no specific dates that this occurs. Although I have noticed that just about every 2 feather variety that Ive seen, happened to be S mint. But that might just be coincidence.

Ok - went back and checked my Buffalo nickel set. ALL of them have this so called "extra" feather except my 1913D Type I. Whats up with that? I am missing 13 Buffalos - those are all of the 1913 type II's and various other ones all before 1928.

It is not an extra feather. What you are seeing is the 3rd feather that is supposed to be there. Theres two big feathers and the 3rd is the one on the other side of his head, you only see that small piece of it. Anyhow, if you see anything in my picture, that is because mine is a 2 1/2 feather variety. On mine, there is still alittle piece of feather still there and it is not missing completely. That makes it a 2 1/2 feather variety. On the 2 feather variety, the 3rd feather is missing completely. So it sounds as though your 1913 might be one of the two varieties. Could you post pictures of that one???

This variety is a result of the mint trying to repair damaged dies. Perhaps the dies clashed together and in an attempt to remove the clash marks, that 3rd feather was also removed.

There may be something there, but let me know if you see anything. If there is, then it is very weak. Funny how the pics bring out little things that you didn't see before. Although there appears that there may be something where the third feather should be, even under a 16x loupe I still couldn't make anything out that I would consider to be a feather, but the pics may show a different story.

Still hard to tell but congrats, you found one, nice find. But I wont say for certain whether its a 2 feather or if its a 2 1/2 feather variety, but it is deff one of the two.
