HSN and ANACS??

I'm watching HSN right now and they're selling a whole bunch of "First Day of Issue MS-70 slabs graded by ANACS.

The 2008 $50 Gold Eagle is going for $1799 (but is a first day of issue!!!!) and they're numbered. I missed it, but apparently they had a grader from ANACs as a guest on the show too.

Does this have anything to do with the ANACs being sold and moving?

Wow, I wonder whats up with that, an ANACS grader on HSN? STILL and ANACS grader or an X ANACS grader, did you catch that detail?

Lots of questions will be flying around concerning the future I'm sure !!

ANACS Grader JP Martin is on the show and Michael Fahey was mentioned as graders for the HSN 2008 ANACS MS70 Silver Eagle Dollar "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" with Wooden Case $99.95

Here is the LINK to the coin on the website item # 306-371

As I am writing this, up popped the ANACS 2008 First Day of Issue MS70 $50 Gold Eagle. Item # 306-401

There aparently more "ANACS FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" coins being sold on HSN I am seeing a 1/10 oz Gold right now Item # 306-374

Just watching this show and I am sure that it has to be a pre recorded show.

I just did an internet search and found that both JP Martin and Michael Fahey were with ICG.

I wonder if the show was done with prior notice that ANACS was being sold to James Taylor well before the sale was finalized? Even before the "DONE DEAL SALE OF ANACS? As we know HSN has been exclusively an ICG graded coin seller so I am being lead to believe that HSN was in the know regarding the ANACS sell. After all the labels for the coin holders had to be designed and printed up for the show ahead of time.

I really feel that this marketing scheme is absurd! FIRST DAY OF ISSUE - ANOTHER COLLECTOR SCAM! First day of issue does not make the MS coins any better than any other MS same graded coin!

During the show, I did not hear James Taylor's named mentioned.

ANACS has just dropped a little lower in my opinion. Time will tell where they finally settle in.

Actually, I went to the HSN site and they have a feature where you can see what is being sold and can buy if you like.

In the description, they say these "first day of issues" are graded by ICG. Oops.

I have a few ANACS slabbers, mostly just variety attributions, but I did pick up a super nice 13-S from RLM's Cents a while ago, thats about it. The 13-S is dead on as far as Im concerned, even a bit conservative.

why has anacs just dropped a little lower in your opinion. at one time or another all of the tpgs have been peddled by hsn and other similar marketeers.

it seems to me that their is a small pool of graders that tpgs have to choose from. i see them as mercenaries of sorts. the graders have a unique skill that few others posses and typically work for the highest bidder. it seems that many of the notable names/graders associated with tpgs frequently move from one entity to another and often times hold a financial stake in the corp.

hopefully mr feld can provide his opnion on this as he may have had some experience is such processes.

And who in what business doesn't do the same ? Among any group of professionals, in any business, you go where the money is, assuming any or all of your other personal considerations, like family, geographical location and work load have been met. Does that make them "bad" people ? It seems from the tone of your post that it would. Or do you just single out coin graders as those that should be held to some higher ethical or moral standard, and if so on what basis ?

This whole deal is a travesty in light of what went on behind the scenes and how the employees were dumped without any advance notice.

Due to SEC rules, large companies must give 30 or more days notice of such things. Maybe we need to have the law changed.

you may have misinterpreted the post...i am not insinuating nor did i state that they [graders] are ''bad'' or ''should be held to some higher ethical or moral standard.''

perhaps you should re-read the post.

Actually, Pharmacists don't work like that and neither do Rabbi's and possibly school teachers. The last 2 are callings. For Pharmacists its just an unhealthy emotional disorder.
