First of all you need to figure out if it is genuine or not. I am not yet convinced it is. You can find pictures of all the various coins of the Reyes Catolicos on this page - Spanish Coins By King - and the coin you have pictured, while similar, does not match any of them.

Now, that alone does not mean the coin is not genuine - but it certainly makes one lean in that direction.

Can you provide us with more information and perhaps some better pics. The diameter and weight of the coin would be helpful.

I do not have a scanner, so that is about as good of picture as I can get. My

scale is digital and it weighs in 2 gram increments. The scale reads 6

grams. The diameter of the coin is 24mm, but shows signs of being worn

down.

Well, the weight increases the concern. The coin should weigh no more than 3.5 grams at most. But as you say, your scale is not the most accurate. If you take the coin to a jewelry store thay can weigh it accurately for you.

The coin exact wieght is 5.8 grams. Here are some more pictures. These might be better. I hope the coin is real, but if not why do they make replicas?

1) To fool the untrained so they can sell their replica for a profit.

2) So people (and museums) can have something to display or fill a hole in a coin album or to be able to display a replica rather than an extremely valuable and irreplaceable original. The US Mint has made replicas of some of their own rare coins. A common replica was an electrotype which was typically made using electricity and created very good copies.

Your coins appears to have been plated and the plating is coming off in places. That points to it not being a geniune coin.
