LinkBack Thread Tools Rate Thread Display Modes 05-10-2007, 06:28 PM   #1 (permalink) jaytant Senior Member     Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Ohio Posts: 212 Gold Indian Head Eagle Question Random question that came across my mind today... the gold 1/2 and 1/4th eagles with an Indian head on them 1908-1929 are in my opinion one of the best looking coins ever made by the US, mainly because of the incuse design. I read in the Redbook that some folks actually didn't like the coins and thought that they would carry germs in the crevices!? and that the coin design was also criticized the design itself, but I have no idea why it was never attempted again. I love 'em too. They're my favorites. I've seen hints that they were troublesome to produce; they caused problems for the Mint. I don't know if that's true. But soon I will know more about these ! Last night, I ordered some good numismatic books.
