| 1996 Olympic 2 Coin Set
I have two sets of Olympic coins. Both sets include
1 1996 High Jump Silver Dollar & 1 1996 Swimming silver Half Dollar
Both sets have some damage on the outer slip case but the COA's, the cases, and the coins are all in perfect condition.
I have been looking everywhere on the internet and am unable to find any mention of both these coins together in a set. I have read about both coins individually and another set with a High Jump and Rowing coin, but nothing about the above two in a set. Do you guys have any idea why this is and how much these sets might be worth?

Roy,I think he is referring to the U.S. ones,as he is referring to a silver $1 & a $1/2.

You could always buy a Krause catalogue from www.amazon.com .

You do not have a legitimate set, someone in the past has substituted one coin for another in the set. If you have the COA ( Certificate of Authenticity ) it will show this.

The Certificates of authenticities are both there for both sets. There is a swimming COA and a High Jump COA. How can I tell from these COA's that they don't belong with each other? Neither COA mentions anything about the other coin in the set. Why would someone switch the coins and COA's?
P.S. This was given to me as a gift in 1996 and I have never tampered with the set. To best of my knowledge they were bought this way.

Let me ask you, are both coins in one case or are they in separate cases ? There was no 2 coin set of the two coins you have issued by the mint. They were however issued individually.

They are both in the same case. I have two identical sets. Both with a swimming half dollar and a High Jump whole dollar. I have the correct COA's for both coins in both sets. Both of the sets are authentic. If the coins were somehow switched the certificates would have to have been switched to. If this is the case are my set worthless? Is it possible this was a manufacturing error? This is why I am so puzzled.

I went to the book store today and looked at some of the coin reference books. You are right, this set doesn't exist in the books. Which at first led me to believe it was a tampered-with set. But after looking at the sets that were made, one thing puzzled me. The inner placement for the set fits both coins. If it were the Rowing and High Jump set and it were tampered with then the Swimming half dollar wouldn't fit in the slot as perfectly as it does.
I will post pictures tomorrow and I appreciate any additional feedback anyone would have on this item. Thanks for the help all and i hope i am not being a pest.

Seems odd though... these two coins were never issued in 2 coins sets with each other as far as I know. The only 2 coin set issued for the 1996 Olympics contained a proof gymnast dollar and a proof paralympics dollar.
Possibly the sets you have were assembled by a private individual or company out of the coins the Mint sold individually... would explain how you have sets the Mint never issued as you have them. Have no doubt the coins themselves are authentic but I don't think the Mint issued those sets as you have them.

Thanks for that tidbit. like i said, ill post pictures tomorrow to give an idea of the set. The set does have this on the cover slip "The United States Olympic Coins of the Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games" And then the US Seal above it. Once you remove the slip case there is another cardboard box which has the same seal and says "United States Mint" It seems so official, thats what is odd. I'll let you guys tell me what you think once i have the pictures up.

There were 4 two coin sets issued, all in Proof and all $1 coins. Wheelchair and Tennis, Rowing & High Jump, Gymnast & Blind Runner and Track & Field and Cycling according to the Krause catalog. There were also several 4 coin sets, 8 coin sets, 16 coin sets and even 32 coin sets isssued for the '96 Olympics. But nowhere can I find any referrence to a 2 coin set like PNowak is talking about. So I have to agree Troodon, it must be something issued by a private company.

PNowak sent me pics (which include COA's) and asked me to post them for him. This is only two of them, but it illustrates the point quite well. Have to admit I'm baffled as to why I cannot find any trace of such a set being issued - but hey, here it is.
