I agree with LostDutchman, even if it grades at the same level, you still make out sending it to PCGS.
Great story, great coin! Thank you for sharing, it gives us cherry pickers hope as we try to land the next amazing deal.
I love your line under your name. "you get what you pay for" In this instance, you may have gotten a bit more.
Congrats on the find! If you're a Merc guy (which I bet you are), I could see holding the coin indefinitely, since the value is unlikely to drop in the future. I am not a Merc devotee (though I certainly like them), I would be more interested in the $20,000+ I could get for the coin to use for the rest of my collection and other non-coin related investments (like real estate, etc). But, again, congrats!
Okay...I am not a dime collector, but love a great cherry pick story. So looking at the coin, there is an overmark on the date? I see the label in the holder, but I do not see a 1 under the 2 on the coin....what am I missing?
http://www.cointalk.com/t223140/ here is the original thread with closeups of the date so you can see the 42/41 and the D/D
My god, man... you won the numis-lotto! Except there's no over-sized check Congrats, congrats, and congrats again! :thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb:
I'm really impressed, makes me want to spend more time and look carefully at what's out there on ebay. Way to go, what a prize!
