I am having a little trouble identifying this piece. It looks to be a 1793 issue and I can find the bird and cornucopia design on other pieces but I can't find this exact piece. HELP!!
Lancashire 150 or 150a depending on the edge. Not too hard to find, there are only 7 English tokens with the "Peace and Plenty" inscription. Essex 8, Hampshire 11 and 12, Kent 4, Lancashire 150, Middlesex 1167 (which is a farthing) and Norfolk 26. Of course I cheat. I have an index of all the token inscriptions with all the D&H numbers that that inscription can be found on. Look up the inscriptions for each side and see which D&H numbers have both inscriptions. In most cases I can narrow a token down to one or just a couple possibilities in under two minutes. Oh 150 edge is PAYABLE IN HULL AND IN LONDON -XX- 150a edge is WILLY SNEDSHILL BERSHAM BRADLEY Lancashire 150 was a mule made for general sale to anyone who wanted them so there is no mintage record. 150 is common, 150a would be an R-6 on the Sheldon scale. Although it is attributed to Lancashire it was most likely made by John Hancock of Birmingham, Warwickshire and I suspect they were made for use in Yorkshire as the planchets of 150 seem to be leftovers from Yorkshire 22 - 25. (The planchets for 150a are leftovers for pieces made for John Wilkinson tokens, attributed to Warwickshire by D&H but actually located in Shropshire.)
