I will start off by saying that I'm not coin collector and I have a question. I found a 1941 "Five Dollar" is what it says on the back of the coin. I think it has an Indian head on the front facing right, above the Indian head it says United States of America 1941, it appears to be a light copper color on both the front and back. On the back of the coin it looks just about a nickel expect it says Five Dollar no s on the end of the Five Dollar. I have looked at it and can not find a mint mark on it. I've tried searching the web and come up with nothing on the coin whatsoever. I am new to this forum and didn't know where to post this particular topic and decided to post it here as it looked the most logical. Anyone know anything about this coin and what it may be worth? Thank you all for taking the time and consideration to look at my post, mnteer.
We need pictures. And as for the mint mark, missing a mint mark could mean it came from the Philadelphia mint.
Here are the pictures of the coin previously mentioned I found the coin this way and I'm pretty sure that somebody made the small hole in the top of the coin, not sure who it was but I didn't do it. Thank You Very Much, mnteer.
Not in this case, as this is not a mint issue. Probably a fantasy "coin" or a token/medal with little or no value. Edit - now that I see the photo, looks like a hobo (carved) nickel.
Yeah after seeing those picks I'd guess a token/medal maybe. Some sort of token/souvenir handing out for something that someone holed and made into a necklace.
This is a perfect coin to sell on eBay... here's some "carved" nickels that include some pretty pricey ones: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1311&_nkw=hobo+nickel&_sacat=0&_from=R40
Thank you all for the information that was gave to me, you have been very helpful. I just think its pretty neat to look at. I had wondered before there might be a value attatched to it just for curositys sake. Thank you all very much, mnteer.
It's definitely NOT a carved Nickel. It's a "trinket". A "doodah" manufactured for some reason. Perhaps a piece of jewelry or perhaps part of a bracelet or necklace.
