Waiting for the feds to come get me since I stole this beautiful Jefferson war nickel set.

    The planning:
Although I am not actively buying Jeffersons, I still window shop. My spidey senses started tingling when I came across this war nickel set.
It popped up on my radar with 1 day left and a $30 bid. I could tell this set was going to be a real beauty.
Although the sellers images weren't bad, they didn't capture the color.

    The heist:
I threw a $50 bid at it just to say I tried. No way I would win it.
I couldn't believe it when I won it the next day for $49.88 + shipping.
As you can see. My gut feeling about them was correct. They are lovely.

    The spoils:
It came in the original Capital packaging, which I suspect has a lot to do with the toning.

That set has amazing eye appeal. Out of curiosity, what will be the fate of these nickels? Are you thinking of having any of them graded?

If you have to ask this question then I'd say the answer is probably yes.

Wow, I think the plastic case itself is worth a bit. Coupled with such nice UNC coins, I'm certain you got a bargain. The toning is another bonus. Congradulations!

According to the CPI Inflation Calculator, $79.50 in 1982 is $188.74 in today's dollars.

Although they have very nice eye appeal and color, I really don't see anything that would warrant a slab. Might get lucky and get a 66 out of one or two, but I feel most are a 65. As you can see, some have small dark spotting, and only 2 have a shot at FS.

So, now they must fulfill their destiny and sit in a box for another 30 years until my kids find them and sell them.

While this is not an area I'm interested in, your clever write up made it a worthwhile read. Thanks for sharing!

    Beautiful!

I have always told folks who want to break into Jefferson collecting, to look out for these exact sets. If they haven't been tampered with, they always seem to have some real blazing beauties in them. Generally you will find many with the gold tones. I have seen the auctions go from between $75-$110 usually. In my opinion, still a great deal.
