This woody is a TOUGH call, I can see 53-62....I might be better off to abstain. Hitting it will be a nice payoff, but missing it could be costly.
I'm not seeing any wear . Some color change but not from wear , I'm thinking 62 - 63 , going to check Heritage . I can't afford a 2+ pt error .
Woody's are BY far the toughest for me. I love all the comments and opinions, but it's very disconcerning that my opinions differ so greatly from those I respect so much. I see what I think is wear AND I think #399 is a better coin......SO.......logic versus gut on this one..... AND YES bahabully, I'll be jumping in soon also.....
If this goes MS, it's a later obverse die state. The master obverse hub was sharpened in 1915 and this looks a bit mushy.
Yes, they were sharpened, but I am pretty sure it was done in mid year. So, you will get coins both coins with great detail and mushy ones.
My book did not say, but I swear I remember that from somewhere. And, I looked at Heritage and quickly found a couple that were either poor strikes or unsharpened dies.
You might be right....I don't know if I've ever heard that, but your research seems to back it. I'm not taking a chance on this one, but I'll make an unofficial guess at AU-62.
