Entire roll is all 50 states counter stamped on Cents!

Got 20 rolls of cents today, 5 paper rolled. Opened one and found the whole roll was 1978 and counter stamped with all 50 states !! I think they are all uncirculated ! Thought this was a pretty neat find.

I have never found one of those... cool to get all the states in one shot.

Makes you wonder if someone cashed in the wrong roll . I'm guessing that some company in 1978 must have sold these types of sets?

 

Yup......precursor to state quarters only the guy that made these (cents) never cashed in.......

there are collectors for them so if you don't want to hold on to them I'm sure you can fetch some $ for them, especially a complete set like that.

 

This is a phenomen that started in the early 1970s with Kennedy's image and the Bicentennial stuff being counterstamped on cents. Often times when I find these they have traces of glue on the reverse - back then they were glued to rings and sold in gumball machine like vending machines. The latest dated counterstamped coin I have found in circulation is a 1988 cent so it must have stopped around that time. I probably have gotten about 25-30 of them in the past few years, I save them.
