This thread is for you to post the coin that you have found while you were outdoors. You could have either found the coin on the pavement, in the grass, digging in the dirt, metal detecting, ext. If you still have the coin it would be nice if you could post a photo to show everyone how good your find was. I myself have never found any coins while using my metal detector, so I am curious to see what people have found using a metal detector. I found a wartime nickel on the floor of my house at school, I forget the date and mm. Also I found a 1903 IHC on the ground on the way to class. Both of those were within 3 months of eachother and they are the only two worth mentioning.
Silver: many pieces, probably 1,000 dimes. 100+ quarters, probably 200+ $1/2 probably about 10 to 20 And #2 silver dollars, both Morgan $'s. [Forgot to add: I started detecting in 1988.]
Treashunt- How far down in thew ground are the coin that you have found with your metal detector? I live on an old farm land that was deeded in 1713 by William Penn, it is now a golf course and golf club. The clubhouse was built in 1754, an addition was made in 1923. There was also a couple of houses in the wood that they recently tore down, that is where I am searching, I know one was from the early 1800's, ones in the mid 1800's and the other one was from the late 1800's. The only thing that I was able to find was a couple of nice dairy bottles and pottery that is from 1884, and the other piece is from 1894.
today i found an American coin on the stairs at work. My guess is that it fell out of some tourists pocket, it is not often that foreign currency is found here It is a one dime piece of 1990 with a D mint mark
I think that it may be tough finding stuff on an old property that's now a golf course. When they build golf courses, they tear the heck out of the land, level it, sculpt it, plant things and dig big holes. Lots of the stuff there may be lost. But you never know, something long lost could be close to the surface now.
Depths for silver range from an inch to 7 inches. They can be very deep. And hard to dig. agreed, but near the old buildings there could be some nice stuff. But! Be careful with the sod, you don't want to get kicked out
