Does anybody here have a "pocket piece" coin that has either sentimental value, or just "fun carry" value to you? I have an 1893 P Morgan that my grandfather gave to me more than 40 years ago. It is very shiny, and harshly cleaned--I did the harsh cleaning myself at age 10 with a brush and sliver polish. It will never see the inside of a slab, obviously, but means a lot to me for its sentiment.
I carry an 1850 Bank of Upper Canada penny token. It's about the size of a half dollar. For many years I carried a 1922 Peace dollar.
I used to carry a Mexican peso, one of the big 1960's ones that I would do magic tricks with. After carrying it around for 20 or so years, I gave it to a young magician who was amazed by it and he incorporated into his act.
I have a 1976 quarter that I carry with me when I'm hoping for a bit of luck. I was born in 1976, plus it has the novell design. I take it with me when I go to the casino, track, fishing, or golfing (doubles as my ball marker). I used to carry a 1976 half dollar, but it was a bit large to work as a ball marker.
1900 Morgan. It was pretty beat up when I picked it up for melt. Has a look of antiqued steel. High points are shiny, and tarnish in the recesses.
I have 2 coins on my keychain, a holed 1844 large cent that I got when working at a local coin shop (gotta love freebies!) and a holed 1974D Ike that was cleaned out of a coinstar machine. And from time to time a Sig P226
I used to carry an 1881-S Morgan when I was in high school, until I lost it in a snowbank at the bus stop. When the spring thaw came around, I found it, and put it away. In college, I sold it with a few other morgans for melt. Lately, I've been carrying a 1972-D Ike around. Makes it much easier for coin roll hunting when I walk into a bank and ask "do you have any large dollars" and place Ike on the counter. I also have two 25 Peseta coins (1990, 1992) from Spain and one 2 Kroner (1994) from Denmark on my key ring. the 1992 and 1994 coins have been there since they were new, and are worn flat now. The 1990 has been there since 2000 and is pretty wasted now.
1921 Morgan that was my grandfathers. 1882-S $5 I bought at a show. Keep both in air tites in my wallet.
I have taken a pocket coin to a new level, my son has drilled holes in some valuable coins, so i have come up with utiliterian uses for these coins. I carry a 1935 canada dollar, 1959 bermuda crown, and 1958 netherlands gulden in my pocket. My holed coins, my car key chain is an 1813 french 5 franc, and my house key chain is a holed 1893 columbian expo 50c
I keep 3 coins in my wallet , #1 US good luck token, when I got this I won £2379.00 on the Lotto within 3 days. #2 1957 Sixpence (chromed) year of my birth #3 double headed £1 coin post mint screwed around with, which I use to call heads in a toss up.
