    Hi All:

I'm wondering, in your experience, how often a NGC graded coin would cross to the same grade at PCGS?

I can find the coins I want in the NGC holders, but not in PCGS holders.

So has anyone had one or more crossed and how did it go?

    Thanks

Sometimes they cross, sometimes they up-grade, sometimes they down-grade. There is no rule of thumb because it depends on the coin.

  4. I cracked three NGC coins and sent them in for raw grading at PCGS. All three upgraded at least by 1 grade. The one went from an F12 to a VF25. :D

Edit: But GD is right, it all depends on the coins you send in. I have heard mixed results enough times, that there is no definite answer. It all depends on the coin.

    I don't think I'd spend 125 dollars on that

I have only had coins cross at grade or below grade going from ngc to pcgs (never the other way around). Generally I find copper and gold drops 1 grade going from NGC to PCGS ... you have a better shot crossing silver at grade.

This Linclon Cent actually dropped 2 grades when crossing: NGC PF67 to PCGS PR65

What if you have a coin graded 67 and both pop reports have zero in 68, what are the real chances for upgrade?

Depending on the series, many believe a PCGS MS67 is an upgrade over an NGC MS67.

I've had several silver coins cross at grade from NGC to PCGS, with some taking more than one attempt. Most copper will drop at least 1-2 points, although I did recently have one cross at grade. I can't remember ever having one upgrade from NGC to PCGS.

Generally pcgs are better so the chances for a down grade are greater

Crap-ola. Thanks for the replies, folks.

BTW: WingedLiberty that's a beautiful cent! And mrbrklyn I don't think I'll spend that much either, it was kinda an example - it's sort of hard to find decent pictures on e-Bay sometimes. OK, usually.

Ikes are hard to find in the higher grades anywhere near the "PCGS value" which I think we all know is, uh, optimistic. edited

Again thank you all for the replies.

Be ready for a drop. Especially if you are buying low mint state or AU55-58 coins. Every now and then youll get a suprise, but unfortunately most of the time you wont.

Well, that depends on how long ago the 67's were graded

Do you mean that the older it is, the less chance of an upgrade?

    No, the opposite.

Yes - Interestingly enough, for all the complaints of grade inflation, grading seriously became tighter at some point. And then you got grade inflation.
