Well, I am working on a dansco 7070 album and wanted to know (and see) who had them, how far through them they are, and what is in it. Will post pictures of mine soon. Lets see some type set!
I'm about 70% of the way through according to the math, does'nt seem like it though.... Most of what I'm missing is the expensive stuff. This is the Wheat cent I have inside... This is the Peace $ More to follow!
I own no half cent, but I have a blazing red wheatie. Bought a large cent today at a show(my second) that might be clasified as cull, seeing as how it has a hole, and a gash obscuring the last number of the date. But I have narrowed it down using the 3 digits and a trusty redbook to 1800-1807.
My favorite album! I always said, if I could start all over again, I would only have the 7070 instead of 40 different albums. It gives you the opportunity to learn about every coin and it's history. Here is mine. I am still missing about 10. http://www.thecoinnection.com/member/MemberCoinShelf.html?memberAlbum=107#
I started mine about 4 months ago and I am about 85% complete. Alot of my coins are fillers since what I wanted to do is start from the lowest grade sincce that is what I could afford and slowly upgrade the coins. I will post pictures later.
My goal has been to spend as much as I can, or am willing to, to get the best I can at the moment, then upgrade.
I had only been working on the 7070 up until February, but I decided I'd rather it be a side project... I am at a crossroads of what I want to focus on... I'm between large cents ans seated quarters.... any suggestions? Here's a couple more:
A decent strategy. I bought the best ones I could afford at the time as well. I already started upgraded even though I haven't finished the set. Those last 10 or so I am missing are so expensive...ugh. Ya know? In decent grades, the bust quarter and half, the trade dollar and liberty dollars and the three cent silver. Not to mention how careful I need to be with the heavy counterfeiting on those.
And guys...when you are done with your 7070's, you can then get the library of coins type set albums. I really love these albums, especially when they are in such nice condition. This is only half-cent to quarters. It has 68 spots. That's 2 or so shy of the entire 7070. I don't have the large coin album yet. Talk about expensive to fill, holy smokes. Here are high resolution images if you want to see the labels. 1793 half cents, chain cents...I wish. The ones I could afford would look like brown metal slugs on the first page.
given those two choices, I'd suggest the large cents. more people collect them which says to me that they will be better appreciated (they will likely hold their value better) in the long term
Yeah I didn't think I had any coins in the album till I grabbed it for this thread. That Merc came with the same group I have been posting in the merc thread. Here is this one: http://www.cointalk.com/t194305-14/#post1401177
I found that, at least the type 3 cent silver I got, cause there are 3 varieties of that, look just fine if they are pretty worn, so long as you dont get vg and below. Not sure on the grade of mine but the price was like $45 and I see none that make me want to upgrade, even a slabbed AU, not as in look better, but better enough to make you want it over what you have. It just has all the details I need. I have a picture, but the color is off. sorry for accidentally uploaded extras. I was taking the pictures on a red colored wood table, and it shows
