    Everyone at CoinTalk likes coins. You will find more collector interest in Poland coins the World & Ancient coin forum (not Coin Chat).

    I bought this coin a month ago. Would you consider this a Polish coin? I think it circulated in the area that is modern day Poland but it was actually minted just to the north of modern day Poland.

    Hello Poland Coins,
    I understand that you re-posted in the World & Ancient Coin Forum. I am still interested in your opinion of this coin. Would you consider this a Polish coin?

    From the "Coa Valley Archeological Site" topic ...

    My "problem" with coins from Poland is that they issue way too many. :) This for example is a list of the pieces that came out last year: http://www.nbp.pl/homen.aspx?f=/en/banknoty/kolekcjonerskie/2011.html

    If one collects Polish pieces only, keeping track will be easier, and of course you can always focus on the 2 zł coins that are issued at face value. But for people like me who also collect euro coins, and quite a few others, but always selectively, it still is challenging. As for the two links, the Krzemionki website (English version here http://www.en.krzemionki.info/index_x.php) tells you more about the location and what was found there; the NBP is the Polish central bank which does not sell coins. Now the Polish Mint does (see English pages here http://www.mennica.com.pl/en/main-page.html) but they have a store http://www.skarbiecmennicy.pl/ in Polish only, and otherwise work with local distributors.

    OK guys...no more political discussions. I don't want to have to clean up this thread again. Stay on topic. Consider this a warning.

    Let's talk about functional analysis then.

    Nah, I won't ... and could not. :) However, in April Poland honored Stefan Banach, one of the most influential modern mathematicians. You can read more about him here (Wikipedia) and here (coin brochure, PDF/English). Three pieces were issued on that occasion:

    * a base metal (Nordic Gold) coin with a mintage of 800,000
    * a silver (Ag 925) coin, mintage 45,000
    * and a gold (Au 900) coin, mintage 4,000.

    Depicted below are the first two. The gold coin can be seen in the brochure or in the hi-res links:
