Looking for all opinions on Brown Box Ikes. I do not keep them in the brown boxes. I do leave them in the original holder. Should I leave them there and hope for the future like the GSA Morgan dollars? Should I break them out of the original holders and put them in Saflips? Also a question: I believe the Saflip 2x2 is the safest archival storage for a flip...any opinions/experiences? Thanks for all your input. Benjamin Tampa FL
Benjamin, You would be better off leaving the Brown Ikes in the original Mint packaging. The biggest problem you face is haze and discoloration from improper storage. Since you live in Tampa, I realize that the heat and humidity can be the biggest obstacles to overcome. You need to store them in a cool, dry environment. I have 20 of the Brown Ikes that were given to me by my paprents in the mid-70's, and I've lived in Cape Coral (140 miles south of you) since 1978. With the exception of one which has developed slight golden rim toning, they are as bright and sparkling as the day they were struck. If you want to take an extra measure for their protection, I'd recommend that you purchase a couple of the 40gm rechargeable desiccant packs. You can order them from www.jpscorner.com That's what I did. Chris
I agree, leave them in the OGP.I have all the years of the Brown Ike's and they have aged very well in the OGP.
