Ordinarily, I wouldn't suggest something like this without first discussing it with Peter, but in this case, I felt the feedback might help Peter to determine if it is worthwhile or not. Currently, anyone who wishes to start a thread about a jeton, token or medal has only two forums from which to choose, either US Coins or World & Ancient Coins. The problem that arises is that there are far more discussions about US Coins and/or World & Ancient Coins, and any thread about a jeton, token or medal can get buried quickly within either of those forums. I really don't think that we need for a separate forum for US Jetons, Medals & Tokens and World Jetons, Medals & Tokens but that is just my opinion. So, what do you think? I've included a poll to simplify this unofficial survey, but your comments and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Chris
The least you could have done is identify yourself. For all we know, "Peter's Alts" might be voting 50 times. Chris
Ya left one out Chris - this one, Coin Chat. As it says in the description of the section - Please use this section for discussion of numismatic topics that don't fit in other sections.
Judging from what most of the topics in "Coin Chat", it could simply be merged with the US Coins forums. In my opinion it does not make much sense to open a separate Medals/Tokens forums, or even two, here ... Christian
Well shucks, Doug! I forgot all about that.......... Coin Chat - Page 1 Heritage auctions Do you agree Canadian dimes Teletrade Christmas Numismatic goals Got duped? Slab or not? Well, I would say the first step is to "define the requirement"; make a list of what's wrong now. In other words, what's the problem we're trying to "fix". Next, are there any technical restrictions to be considered...is there a restriction on the maximum number of forums the current software or format will allowed? If forums are added, how does it affect the appearance or functionality of other features on the page? What has priority? Even if you can squeeze in another forum, what do you say to the folks that want a separate eBay forum? ...or Commemorative forum? ...should Jetons, Medals, and Tokens jump to the head of the line? As the Carpenter says..."measure twice, cut once" :thumb:
OK Chris, we'll do it your way. But that's page 1. When I did a search, of just the Coin Chat section, I came up with a 293 threads about tokens. I came up with 287 threads about medals. But only 15 threads about jetons. But that's out of over 20,000 threads in Coin Chat. So it seems there are some folks who post about them here in Coin Chat. That said, nothing wrong with you asking about it. Every week, sometimes every day, somebody ask about opening a new forum section for one subject or another.
I think it's like a good reference book, sometimes topics deserve their own section to help the reader get the information they are looking for. That said, I know very little about tokens compared to other areas of coin and currency collecting.
I guess I missed this thread the first time Chris. You know I like tokens and medals so I vote "yes". Bruce
