I recently bought this SCD on EBay. When I picked it up, I knew the weight was not correct. I weighed it on my gram scale to be sure, and it was about 7 grams less than what it should be. I was even more sure it was a fake when I saw the same medal being sold again by the same seller. Just be careful when buying this SCD on Ebay fakes are out there. As of now, Ebay has two of these SCD's for sale. One I am fairly sure is genuine and the other fake. The genuine one is being sold by a well known SCD dealer.
Seriously, turn him into eBay and get your money back. Nobody, including eBay, wants people like that selling there.
What is sad now is that many legitimate sellers are not getting the action they should, and these scammers keep on selling. One seller I know has sold two medals to me for half to one fourth what he should have gotten. One was sold four years ago for four hundred dollars, and I got it for 175.
Unfortunately it's a buyer beware market on eBay and craigslist and buyers need to be more educated on coins if they intend to make the bulk of their purchases from those online sources. When it comes to eBay, and buying, I only purchase from dealers I've done business with in person at coin shows as I know they are only selling quality merchandise. If I considered purchasing from someone else, which I wouldn't, it would need to be in a slab from one of the top two TPGs. Fortunately, eBay has buyer protection regardless whether the seller says no refunds in their ad, you can get a refund by filing a SNAD against the seller. eBay and PayPal always side with the buyer and I recommend you get the ball rolling on this.
When you complain to eBay, don't do a SNAD, but rather let them know upfront that it is a counterfiet. That way you don't have to send the fake back to the seller and let him pawn it off on someone else.
I have built up a listing of sellers on EBay who I can trust. This seller definitely goes onto my do not buy from list. I read once here that someone suggested a banned seller's list for buyers on EBay. I wish they would do that and notice who we ban. It would certainly make EBay a safer place for buyers and a fairer place for legitimate sellers.
I just reported him (thanks for pushing me to do this). I was surprised they did not ask why I found the SCD was a fake. I suspect they will later though. Unfortunately, I had given feedback before I knew for sure it was a fake. I have only found one definite fake so far on EBay. I have been overcharged a few times but not completely swindled.
You might be able to change your feedback. I once gave a seller a 1 star and he emailed me asking him why. I stated that I hsouldn't have and was a 4 star rating. He informed me that I had to submit a ticket to ebay to "erase" my feedback and then I will be able to re-enter another feedback.
I'm not real familiar with SCD but I know many of them were issued in several different metals. What metals was this particular one made in? According to eBay the star feedback is supposed to be anonymous. He should not have known who gave him the one star unless it came in during a period when no one else was leaving him feedback.
The medal was made to look like white metal, but I checked the ANS data for that SCD in WM and it should have been 7 grams heavier. Also I had bought and received the same SCD in WM a few days before and could feel the weight difference. When I look at the rim, I can see where some paint has flaked off. I suspect it is a later date aluminum replica made up to look like white metal. I asked someone from EBay if I could change my feedback and was told no. The only way I could change the feedback was if I went from bad to good. I also found out that the feedback is not anonymous. The day after I gave neutral feedback, I got a phone call from the seller at 9AM.
Feedback is not and never has been anonymous. However, the star ratings are anonymous. That can be overcome if you only get one rating in a relatively long period of time, but you can only determine that by process of elimination.
