hello - i often come to this forum just to read up on who's discussing what. this is the first time i registered and am posting here. i am in the u.s. have an original roll of canadian cents which i figured i'd list on ebay and first searched for similar items to get a sense of the price - however, the 1998 canadian cents i found there depict QEII with a crown, this roll clearly does not. additionally, although there is no mintmark where another coin had one, there is a mark, what might be an "F" below the queen's bust. of course i searched a bit but don't readily find an answer and i'm about to leave (in an hour!) for a rainy week upstate - can someone direct me to read up on such variations so i may list my coins properly? thanks for your consideration!

    Welcome to Coin Talk!
    It's a "P" for plated.

The P is an indicator that the cent was plated. The 1998 cent with value is the one that has a W which indicates the Winnipeg mint. Your roll is of common cents.

thanks - so i guess a bank roll is no big deal and i may just as well get 50c out of it by mixing it in with my $us pocket change? i guess i won't quit my day job, huh? thanks!

you could sell the roll unopened for a buck or two on eBay

I don't think that's a roll from the mint for a number of reasons. They didn't start using plated pennies until I think 2001. I know you can get the higher denomination coinage like dimes and quarters that are 2000p. But I don't know about pennies. Also the mint didn't start using the uncrowned portrait until 2003. even then not all the coins minted had it. The first year where all the portraits were uncrowned was 2004. Sorry I'm at work on a break and can't look up the dates to give a concrete answer.

You're correct, Hamhawk (great name btw!). I failed to mention it's obviously a mixed roll.
