where?

The Washington Quarter of that design was made 1932-1998. I know this is not marked as a quarter, but they did not have that design on a dollar coin ever.

As for the gold coin, the US Mint has never made a gold coin exactly the same as the quarter in 1865, however, they did make a commemorative coin in 1999 that resembles a quarter shown here http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi...memorative.jpg

There were no gold coins minted by the US Mint in 1792.

Bonedigger has not been a member here for well over a year. I don't expect him to return just to apologize for a post he made years ago.

I think that your expectation is reasonable.

Wow, I did not realize this thread was from 2006 until these last couple of posts.

It was an interesting read as I have not seen that fantasy coin before.

Same here, I was getting ready to respond, and then I realized that I didn't recognize some of the posters, and looked at the date, and then it hit me!

I know this topic is old, but I recently aquired a very similar coin. With the research I'm currently capable of I have found NOTHING about mine. It has some likeness to the ones mentioned, yet some extreme differances. For example it doesn't say "facsimile" on it any where. The olive leaf stems are curved. And the rim is thick. It never said "quarter". And the Eagle wings are seemingly big and come very close to the rim. I truely dobt this thing is real (expecially due to where I got it), but with my searching I'm just getting more and more confused. Can one of you experts help. Thank you.

Read thru the thread. This appears to be a fantasy piece someone made. If you have the 1865 one dollar coin it is a fake coin. There really is nothing to find out about the coin.
