    1965 quarter

I have a 1965 quarter there is no mint mark. The fact that I can see more copper on the back then silver and the ridges on the side are on the back. you can make out united states of america on top of back and quarter doller on bottom of back in the ridges the eagle is fully visable. Not sure of weight but the thickness is that of a dime anyone seen anything like this before? Wish I could provide a better picture.

Well used? Most likely post mint damage. I keep a special box for just such lovely items. My guess, if you can get someone to accept it as a quarter you are in good shape.

I can't think of any way the reeded edge would be on the reverse. I may be wrong, but I'm fairly sure that the reeding is on the collar, so I don't see how that would end up on the coin's reverse. Maybe someone could enlighten me, but it seems to me that it has to be PMD.

It looks like it got squished or something, explaining the thickness and reeding.

My first thought was the it was missing some clad layering, but after further examination, I have concluded that it is most likely PMD. You win some... You lose some. Click here to enlarge Keep your chin up!

What's it's diameter? And take it to a jeweler and ask him to weigh it. We need both pieces of information. I think it may be a hollow Magician's coin which was flattened.

Quarters from 65 on contain no silver, in business strikes. Looks like someone dipped in something to remove the nickel, or they scraped it off with something. Hard to tell as the pics quality is not good.

It looks to me like something has been applied to the reverse of the coin, perhaps wax, paraffin, rubber. The details of the coin are clearly visible beneath the substance. And someone has pressed a design into the substance to make it look like the reeding is on the reverse of the coin.

I would hazard a guess that it was exposed to strong acid for a time.
