My latest stock pick-up arrived today and it looks even better than expected. This is an unissued certificate of the East Mahanoy (PA) Rail Road Co., circa 1906. Printed by American Bank Note Co., it sports *six* vignettes, including the only rattlesnake I've seen by ABNC. There's even a woodcutter (doesn't someone out there collect those?). Most of these were probably engraved in the 1860s and 70s. Of course, the locomotive is the real prize.

Thought I'd share some close-up scans...

I have seen lots of locos, lumbermen, and Native Americans on 19th century paper - but never a rattlesnake. I think a whole thread on unusual vignettes is in order.

Very nice Stock! All of the engravings are nice but I to love the snake. As a former Marketing Manager I don't think I would have used the image because of the connotations. Thanks for sharing!

A beautiful example of what the American Bank Note Company was engraving and printing in the mid 19th century.

Brilliant idea, SM! I know I could scare up a few more oddballs. Would you promise to contribute?
