This coin was glued to a coin board. The staining on the reverse was a thin layer of glue.

The coin was subjected to about a 5 minute soak in pure acetone. Then rinsed in distilled water.

Nice, looks like nothing ever happened to that coin. What's the negative effect for keeping it in the acetone bath too long?

not much with silver.... it can lighten the shade of copper coins.

Par for the course... pulled a BU wheatie out of a roll that had a spot of glue residue on the reverse, when I got it off, it had some minor scratches just like that. Still a nice coin, I love those Philippines designs.

No negative effect. I've let coins soak for weeks in pure acetone. It's largely unnecessary as acetone does its job pretty quickly.

I'd soak it again, probably overnight. Looks to be some remnants of the glue on the right side of the reverse, just inside the legends.

That's the area that was not covered by the glue that had toned slightly. A quick proper dip will take care of that.

That has been my experience as well. For copper collectors acetone is largely boring.....xylene on the other hand rocks.

Nice job on the conservation Matt!
