I don't think they will ever be worth much just because of the high production numbers and the fact that they don't seem to circulate much-so many will be avilable in high grades.

But, if you like the coin-then it is a good series to collect. It certainly shouldn't be difficult to put a nice set together. The only "key" in the set is the 2001-S Proof which seems to be selling at a pretty high price at the moment (the last time I checked they were about $100 for a nice one). I'm not really sure why that specific proof is selling so high-but it is (and then again, that may not be a perminant thing).

RichieB16,you have also forgotten to mention that the Cheerios 2000 Sacagawea pattern $1 is also another good coin to watch out for.

I knew I had forgotten something-but I couldn't remember what. That was it.

My daughter likes the coin-- she calls it the "mommy/baby dollar" but I know she is in the minority in her affection for it.

I asked the question about why the 2001-S is so key in another thread, I can try to dig it out later...

I bought 2 yesterday P&D.

I thought i'd give my US collection a boost, I don't have the cash to get the old stuff.

No proofs avaliable though...stuck with BUs.

I'm collecting only the proof, the UNC tends to discolor with time.

Everytime I see one I cry over its lack of artisty, politically motivated subject, and its overall ugliness and tendency to turn without the slightest provocation.

If so many people are against the Sacky, then I say collect them. Get the best grades you can, and as full a set as you can. Wish I'd done that with Ikes when they were a dime a dozen. Now nice ones are starting to go for sem-real money.

Ditto for SBAs.

I think sacagawea is quite attractive.

Worried about your comment's on the coins easily discolouring though...

I'll keep searching for some proofs.

EDITED--Sorry but no offers to buy/sell/trade

The design is a matter of personal preference (although I don't care for it) but the metal composition is horrible.
Does anyone know if the new presidential dollars will be the same zinc/manganese atrocity?

I can't handle the discoloration. A major flaw in the overall design of the coin. I wish they would have been more thoughtful on the metals they used.
