Just because someone had asked about circulation proof pennies, I thought I'd post this. This is a 1964 Kennedy proof that has been well circulated. It might have been cleaned at some point (all the random scratches), but it has quite possibly the strangest toning I've seen in a non-black coin. (The bottom half of the first image has some "black" area... that's actually a reflection of the camera, not toning.)
I wasn't asking if it was worth something. I was posting the pictures to show that a proof coin that went through circulation still looks like a proof. For the record, it's $14.71 melt value anyway. At least, that's what I'm selling it for later today. I even quoted the original post to show that I never asked for a value. It really was just to show what a circulated proof looks like.
you know what i actually really like that toning. shame about all the scratches otherwize that would be a real beauty
This makes me think of the story of Kennedy proofs that were showing up in the slots in Vegas. This was several years back. What was crazy is that the mint had not even sold any of that year, when they started showing up. At least two guys went to jail over that deal.
