Amercian Bank Note vignettes on vellum

I was scanning through some older threads and realized I'd promised to post some specific images...about a year ago.

This is in response to the original thread posted by USS656 (http://www.cointalk.com/t87576/ and http://www.cointalk.com/t90594/) showing a couple vellum sheets American Bank Note printed for one of their annual reports. ABNC did this for a number of annual reports and although I don't have the original reports, they did print extra vellums which I picked up later.

These sheets are each about 9x12 (the green one is 8x10) and the engravings are fantastic. They remind me a lot of the ABN Archive portfolio sheets. These two are single sheets...

And these four are actually double sheets, folded in half. They were stapled into the report along the crease.

The Native Americans and the eagles show up in countless stocks and bonds. Let's see who's sharp enough to point out the eagle that was used on federal currency!

 

I did totally miss this thread. Thanks for linking to it. I really like these and have never seen them. The first sheet with the collage of details and small vignettes is really fun. The other pages do really recall the Archives series pages too. Man! There is some great work out there! I really appreciate that you bring this work to this forum and share your collection. So did you find the eagle that appears on a federal banknote? Hint: It's pre-1870.

 

Well I don't really know that era so well, so I had to go and do some research! Off to Heritage Auction archives I went... It appears the eagle from your ABNCo vellum sheet was used on the Fr. 7 $10 1861 Demand Note! WoW! And right above the eagle on that note it shows ABNCo. along the top margin. Very cool! Thanks for the lesson. :smile

Earlier in this thread I posted a green sheet of engravings. I call it my B sheet (you can figure out why). Today, I received the E sheet! I knew there were two parts to this set but it took a few years to find both pieces. The ABNCo engraved work is spectacular as always!
