Skyline

Has anyone brought from "Skyline" who advertises in Coin World? If so, good or bad experience?

Skyline Coins, Paul Sims, John Paul Sarosi, Coast to Coast Coins, and The Coin Depot all sell dipped, re-engraved, whizzed, and cleaned XF-AU coins as "Premium Quality Brilliant Uncirculated." If there weren't newbies to be ripped off, these losers would be out of business.

Charlie

PS. On a positive note, the Shop at Home TV network that hosted "The Coin Vault" is going out of business.

How is that positive? I had so many laughs from those clowns at Coin Vault.

By the way, wasn't the guy who stabbed himself with a cheap sword a Coin Vault host?

Are you serious? I bought 4 silver quarters from Paul Sims a year or two ago and they are cleaned?

If you can post pictures of them, we might be able to tell you if they were cleaned or not. 99% of what Paul Sims sells is dipped out junk.

Nick, Unfortunately those quarters you posted are dipped XF-AU's. You can tell because they have wear on the high points, and have no mint luster left.

Definitely not BU. It also appears they spent some time in a plasticized flip, as there is a film on the surface of these coins.

No doubt, you can tell from the dullness of the coin.

Unhappy Obnoxious telephone service at John Paul Sarosi

Has anyone had dealings with John Paul Sarosi. I called them this morning to inquire about an 8-coin gold type set that was in their catalog. The person who answered the phone (I assume John Paul, himself) was a total jerk. Before he answered my question, he asked me, in a rather hostile tone "Who is this?". I told him my name and that I was a former customer. He became increasingly annoyed when I asked him to clarify the grade of the coins being offered (which were listed in the catalog as simply "uncirculated"). I said I seemed to have gotten off on the wrong foot with him. He replied that I was asking about things that were already explained in the ad. (anyone here think that all uncirculated coins are the same?).

I told him to forget it; that I would spend my $3,000+ somewhere else.

A very old post / quote. I'm sure I've seen these guys from " Coin Vault " recently. I flip to whatever shopping channel they are on during commercials. There's no mistaking the pitchmen. They gush on and on about spectacular rarities availible exclusively through their store. Sometimes they do hawk nice coins but they are so overpriced it's comical.

There is something to be said for learning how they sell. They were very good at pitching the material and they sold coins, perhaps more than most of the dealers here.
