Last year, CT member RickieB, of the note-able R.D.Bradley Collection, kicked us off with this thread: New Years Resolution Note for 2010

While RickieB posts less than before, he continues to check in to read threads, so I'm taking his lead this year.

Please post, if you will, your goals and/or New Years Resolution Notes for 2011.

All paper currency and relevant materials to paper collecting welcome: US, World, currency publications materials, souvenir card replica notes, security engraving vignettes, dies, etc.

If you are able to reach any of your goals during the year, please report back to this thread and post scans or photos of your accomplishment(s).

Good luck and happy collecting in 2011 Click here to enlarge

In 2010, I took a much more serious turn toward learning about paper money and security engraving topics, as this aspect of numismatics had always interested me but remained a deficiency in my collection and understanding of numismatics. Here is my post for 2010 resolutions, which I feel I far exceeded throughout the year. I happily embraced many new items in my collection and had the benefit of many paper collectors here on CT supporting and nurturing my entry into paper money. Thank you all, you have been major stars in this formative step in my understanding of currency.

For 2011 I would like to accomplish some of these goals:

    • Add Series 1928 and/or 1928-A: $5, $10 and $20 numeral notes to my small-sized FRN St. Louis district collection.

    • Add (to the highest quality my budget permits) a certified $50 denomination note to my small-sized FRN St. Louis district collection. This will likely be a Series 1934 or 1934-A.

    • Acquire an example of a gold certificate. Ideally, I will seek graded examples in PMG/PCGS holders between 35 to 55 grades (or higher) but always budget permitting. A longer term goal, beyond 2011, is to assemble a small-sized gold certificate type set, not inclusive of all Friedberg numbers, but one of each denomination: $10, $20, $50 and $100 notes.

These are my more lofty resolutions for 2011. I hope I am successful in some at least.

I'm new to CT and don't fully understand the purpose of this thread. To my current understanding you are asking me what I'm trying to get my hands on for the year 2011..I'm trying to start a Peace Dollar collection. Every year and every mint mark. I don't have any Peace Dollars right now, but I have a feeling someone is going to get me started tomorrow when we do Christmas at my girlfriends parents (late yes, but there are so many things we do around the holidays we can't do Christmas just on the 25th :P). So hopefully that happens tomorrow, but if not, I will get the ball rolling this year!

Anyways I hope I got the gist of what the deal is..Happy hunting CT and have a great year!!

OK I GET IT NOW Click here to enlarge))

SO the deal is paper money. I'm glad I work with a lot of it. I want to get a set of like $20 face of sequential $2 Star Notes. Should be easy enough!

This thread is listed in the PAPER MONEY section of CT.

It is asking for notes that you are resolved to acquire in 2011 as a goal during the year ahead.

    So
PAPER MONEY ONLY please -- no coins here.

I'd like to expand my Canadian bank notes collection with a full or semi-full set of 1954 Devil's Head notes. (grade isn't a big concern).

Add a couple more Chartered banknotes. These can get expensive so it'll be pure luck to get them in my budget.

Continue with collecting U.S. error notes. I have close to a dozen now and if I can double that number during the next year I'd be happy.

Continue to add to my U.S. bank note collection. I'd like to complete the one, two and five dollar silver certificates.

Probably keep buying cheap foreign paper money, which I do often, to add to my collection.

Try not to over spend on a note I have to have ...(haaaah,good luck).
But more then that to just enjoy the hobby and treat all of the forum members & friend with respect .It's not about who's got the best ,every note ,vignette, mpc, etc is a story in itself no matter what the grade ,please post it and share it with everyone. #3 ....get my raw notes graded so my familyand I know what the value of my collection is and will get a fair deal in the future.

Don't I know it Ken! I had 34 chances for last nights drawing and the most I got was two numbers on two different lines.

On the bright side, the next drawing is up to $290M as there were no winners last night.

If either of us get a good chunk of the lotto we'll have to do some serious CoinTalk Contest entertaining. Click here to enlarge

Sounds good and good luck starting out. If you don't have any particular era or type of notes in mind for your collection then may I suggest something like Bobbeth87's $1 note type set.
