    Hey all,

Just today my aunt/uncle showed me a token that my uncle found while doing work on a house hidden in the rafters. I honestly know nothing about these things, and neither did they, but we both want to find out. It's gold colored (dont know if it is actually gold) and shows a shield very similar to what is on the 2010 lincoln cent obverse. On the back of the coin, it lists what I think is the persons name it was awarded too, and several wars that the person must have fought in.

It has a drilled hole at the top, so it must of been like a dogtag worn as a necklace.

I took pics with my 2mp phone while I was there today, but if need be I could get better or what the token actually said.

If anyone knows anything about this, It would be awesome for some feedback :).

    Thank you!

We will need better pics and the shield is on the reverse of the 2010 Lincoln cent, not obverse. :D

Guessing from that overly blurry photo it looks like one.
    But that's a guess.

Try typing in some of the words, names, phrases in a Google search and read through some links. Get to know the piece and try to identify it.

    ALSO...

    and

Lots of links for token collectors that you can peruse here Exonumia.com/links

It's defiently war related. Below the name is the Company he was in (Co. O?) It looks copper which was the choice of metal in the Pre /Post Civil War days. What words are on the tag?

It forwards the thread nowhere so long as the OP doesn't provide a transcription of the obverse and reverse sides of the piece.

Do us that favor please allout123.

Before I took on coin collecting I was and still am in collecting militaria. I have books galore like you guys have coin books.

You say it was found by your Uncle which I assume New York based on personal info. That would make your guy Union.

Also, based on the picture I'm going to say it's a identification tag of the Union Army. Each state had there on stamp.
Give me better info on the Co. and Regiment and I can help you with the history.

    Nice find.

That token that was at the link looks exactly (besides the personal info and battles) like the one my uncle/aunt have. Although, that one was in pretty bad condition, and it still sold for $800! My uncles is in great condition, and at the moment I am going to give them another call to see if I can get the specifics. Thank you again!

man that is really cool! I would love to own that piece! As a soldier myself I think it would be amazing to own a brothers "dog tag" that fought in the civil war...

A better pic is mandatory especially if the OP expects to learn something about the subject token. $800 for what a token that has a hole in it? It would have to be confederate. Come back when you get some pics!!
