Grease filled or weak strike or ?

    Since I don't see any significant rim damage on the OBV nor REV , I am curious as to what would cause so many letters to go missing from the OBV. Also , when comparing this coin to others that share this date & MM , the date looks thick and flat on this coin.

    I would have to say a clogged die, some parts of the coin have a normal strike...

    Grease filled most likely, but the 3 in the date might well be PMD.

    I agree with rim's
    the damage to the 3 is most like likely due a coin rolling machine

    It's not unusual to find grease-filled dies on Lincoln cents because the incused lettering on the die is so small, but it's interesting to note that you see the GFD's more often on cents than you do on the other small coins, nickels and dimes. Maybe the press operators are using the "greasy kids stuff".
