After a very involved, educationally fulfilling and fast-paced year as a member of this diverse forum, and as the winner of several fine CT contests myself, I am taking the opportunity to show my thanks to the community by holding my first contest following my first year on CT. I spent a fair amount of time in preparing the contest. I aimed to require a dedicated effort on behalf of the willing contestants. I hope you will all enjoy the contest.

What will the contest be about?
The contest will focus on a particular era of U.S. history and feature a historical personage through a common theme related to this person and their time period.


What kind of contest is this?
The contest will be presented in the form of 10 questions requiring primarily online search, reading and short written answers.


How does the contest work?
The eligible contestant with ALL 10 questions correctly answered in the allotted time will be the winner. In the event of a tie amongst eligible contestants, an 11th multi-part question will be posed as a tie-breaker. Subsequent ties may be broken by drawing remaining names from a hat, if required.


What will be required of contestants?
Broadly speaking, eligible contestants should have an interest in reading about U.S. history and be willing to test your abilities to re(search) answers, which will be entirely possible to find online.


Who is eligible: VERY IMPORTANT!!!
• Any CT member with at least 50 posts and who registers in this thread by 11:59 pm (ET) on Wednesday, 6/16/2010. (If you don't have 50 posts, go read and reply to some threads.)
• Registration is required. To register you must reply in this thread with the phrase, "Giddy Up!" by the above date/time.
• After the registration period ends, I will collect and post a list of the eligible contestants who entered and who will be able to participate in the contest. The list of eligible contestants will appear in this thread on Thursday, 6/17/2010.


When does the contest start?
Keep an eye on the CONTEST section of CT! Be prepared for the contest to start at a random time on Thursday, 6/17/2010.


When does the contest end?
The contest will run until Sunday, 6/20/2010 at 11:59 pm (ET). All answers must be received by this time. Answers received afterward will not be accepted. After the time expires I will determine if we have a winner or announce if we have a tie and any proceeding steps.


How should participants submit answers?
Answers* must be sent by Private Message. Any answers posted publicly will end the contest and no prizes will be awarded. IMPORTANT: You may change any of your answers up to the cut off time. Each revision submitted will stand as your final answer(s) for any question(s) you may have changed, even if you previously submitted the correct answer but changed your mind and got it wrong by editing.

*Answers to the contest questions will be provided after the contest ends and the winner(s) are announced. The winner(s) or any tie will be announced on Monday, 6/21/2010.


What will the prize(s) be?
There shall be a SILVER prize awarded to the contest winner.
There may also be a BRONZE 'second place' prize awarded if there are multiple participants with the same amount of correct answers. This will be determined by drawing a name from a hat if a tie occurs.


If there are any questions about the workings of the contest, please post them to this thread and I will try to address them for everyone's benefit prior to the start of the contest.


***Please note that I am traveling during this 'registration' period and am not going to be online constantly for instant replies. I will be checking in periodically to see how things are going, answer questions, bump the thread, etc.

Second...You put me at a distinct disadvantage. The Baltimore Coin Show is from 17-20 June and (if that weren't bad enough)...I still got dial-up :crying:.
