Out of [morbid, perhaps] curiosity (and not trying to stir politics or controversy), I did a little bit of research into whether or not BP has issued tokens in the past. I've seen lots of examples of other oil company tokens, but couldn't recall if I had ever seen any BP. Here are a few examples that I found. Was wondering if other folks had examples. Indeed it is. If these tokens were viewed under different circumstances I'm sure that there would be many accolades given to them. Given the current "climate" of things........not. BP is Persona Non Gratta........
Me too. Besides, someone else would just replace them. Would you prefer they drill off the coast of West Africa? Boy, wouldn't that be grand!
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that off shore deep water drilling is stupidly dangerous. If you drill for oil in the middle of the desert and something goes wrong the oil merely goes back into the ground and doesn't exterminate fish, shrimp, birds and other wildlife. Perhaps a few scorpions... But it's more expensive and greed is greed.
Problem is that "production" or extraction of oil is increasingly government controlled in many parts of the world. That does not really leave too many options if you are a "non-governmental" company, and so you take more risks. But it seems that BP has not found the right line between being venturesome and responsible yet. That "pseudo-ancient" token is interesting, CheetahCats. Apparently BP issued a whole set of such pieces ... Oh well, here in Germany they have only four or five "BP" branded gas stations. For all others they use the "Aral" brand - and I have never seen such tokens there. Christian
BP assests should be siezed and sold off to pay for the clean up, Ask all the realatives of the dead and people like me that worked for BP. Working for BP was the most stressful time in my career. BP should be kicked out of the US and never allowed to do buisness here again. BP is truely unsafe and really do not care about the SMALL people.
Indeed. What was said the other evening was misleading, as NIMBY (and not available land) has been a large reason why these companies have ventured into areas that many say are too dangerous for exploration. It appears that none of the tokens were produced in the recent past. I wonder if this same trend applies to all petrol dealers? I seem to remember them as a kid among many different brands... but can't remember seeing any issued in the last 2 decades.
