LOOK what i got from work today

so today was my first day back at work after having a week off. i am getting my cash together when i see we finally got a brick of 2009 $1's. i was thinking to myself "SWEET":hail::hail::hail:. i get the brick and i am super excited to see the middle #'s of the serials are double 8. so i got a strap of 100 notes for myself and grabbed the other 2 notes listed below. one is a radar :bigeyes::bigeyes::bigeyes: and the other is a bookend. i tell you i was so happy these notes came in. i was starting to think we would never get them. enjoy :thumb: i wish i had more money available or i would have picked up a few more straps

lol, i wish they were "G's" . i guess since atlanta is the closet federal district to me thats what we normally get in new notes. eh that was the best thing that happened going to work today:computer::computer::computer:

 

Forgive my ignorance, but would you buy up new 2009 bills like that? I know my bank has been giving out the 2009 bills for at least a few weeks now. Is it worth asking if they have mint looking ones like that and just buying them all (to look through at least)

 

Yes people buy them but not for much premium at all.
More trading for the new ones...at least for a few years then.

 

Congrats urban! the radar is great. LOL I did go back after I read the post to look at the reserve. Yes, it was to bad it wasn't Chicago! Good luck with the cup! We had it for a year and now it is time to move on! Think the bh will make easy work of the competition!

 

well i know around here i havent come across many of the 2009's at all. i work at a bank and this is the first time we received them. they have been selling on ebay for $2-3 a piece. if you could come across some more if i were you i would just pick up 10 in consecutive order if possible. something to hold onto.

Doesn't it have to have a star to be a radar note? Star and Radar are not the same thing?

 

nope they are 2 diffrent types of notes. now you could have a star note that is a radar. :thumb: star note is exactly that a note with a star next to the serial. the radar has the same numbers in the serial front and back.

Just curious, but I assume these were printed at the washington location? I have been looking for these in Maryland and none of my banks have them or can get them yet. Do I have to wait for the New York of Philly federal reserve series to be printed before I can expect them?

Where can I get up to date info on what is being printed so I can ask my tellers to try to order some uncirculated notes. I am dying to find some

I saw those, but they do not include the 2009 F series this poster has, so those numbers are a little out of date. Is there any place to get more recent info. I also saw those B series NY notes, but I don't think I would get them down in Maryland...

 

That's the place to watch for what the actual figures of printages that come out of the BEP, goindsg forward they will be published there. Your bank has to order notes from the Federal Reserve who order them from the BEP/Treasury. You will likely have more chance getting NY straps in NY banks. I haven't seen any yet available from the few branches I use and have inquired about them here.

 

Ah, and your in NY too. I asked my teller and she said they place the order with Dunbar, who then ultimately decides if they should order from the FED or use what's on hand. So my bank basically says they can't order directly from the FED, any suggestions, or is what my teller saying not true?

 

Other way around--the original poster's notes were printed in February. Often it takes several months for currency to work its way through the pipeline.... See here for a breakdown of the series by month of production.

With the 2009 series still being so new, it's hit-and-miss being able to find them at your bank. Some areas of the country are seeing them in quantity by now; other areas probably won't get any for months yet.

You can't really go by the Federal Reserve district printed on the note; the BEP doesn't always ship new currency to the "correct" district any more (and hasn't been strict about that since the early '80s). Over a whole fiscal year, the amount of currency printed for each district matches the amount of currency shipped there, but the BEP doesn't go to the trouble of matching the printing schedule to the shipping schedule on a week-to-week basis.

The original poster's notes were printed at the BEP's Fort Worth facility--notice the "FW" mark in front of the face plate number. In fact, *all* $1 notes have been printed at Fort Worth for nearly a year now; May 2009 was the last time Washington printed any. It appears that Washington is temporarily rather low on production capacity, due to old presses being taken out and new ones still being shaken down, so Fort Worth is getting a larger share of the total workload than has historically been the case.
