I have been putting in reasonable bids lately and I am being out bid EVERY time! With the reasonable bids I put in I would think I would hit now and then but I get NOTHING. I remember they had a shill bidding controversy a few months ago, what ever happened with that? I am super frustrated because I used to win maybe one out of four or one out of five, now I win zero.
I suspect that what's happening is that you're bidding on coins that somebody is simply bidding more for. I'm fairly (but not 100%) sure which coins are frustrating you; I would not have expected to lose them, either. However, it does happen, and I know this firsthand from having been on the wrong end of that sort of thing more than once. Keep in mind that if you lose a coin by more than one increment, at least two people are bidding more on it that you are. I would be happy to go through any specific questions you might have on the lots you've been bidding on recently. If you like, please contact me at stewarth@ha.com or by phone at 800-872-6467 x1355 and I can go into more detail (although I would not be able to release any privileged information, of course). For the record, Heritage does not shill bid, period.
Been there, done that, got the tee-shirt - last year. But I don't really think that is the answer to his question.
It can be frustrating!! It took me awhile to win my first item on Heritage You actually have to over bid to get what you want!!
I will keep bidding because I only bid what I think things are worth and I can't lose with that. I do appreciate you commenting right away on this though and that is in keeping with the service I've had from Heritage in the past. Mostly I am blowing off steam because I lost on some stuff I really wanted on the Tuesday auction (also I have not been able to win anything for a while).
Be advised that I generally like Heritage and am a "legacy" customer. That said, they do have their "pimples and warts".
First, look up the definition of shill bidding. Then see if you can figure out who swhuck and The_Cave_Troll are.
I know, but that was not quite the point. I Was trying to tell majorbigtime that your earlier comment actually meant something.
Internet bidders are at an extreme disadvantage to those who view the coins in-hand. My suspicion is that you're getting better at finding the good coins, but others who see them in hand are comfortable bidding more. I know that happened to me as I advanced in skill level, and wonder if something similar is at play here too.
You know me better than that, MBT. My feet are anything but cold. I misread the post where he asked the question.
I can see the light, and how just a light scramble of words, can be walked around or through.and made to benefit others.in such a profitable way.how unfortunate for some. does anyone have the website for heritage I would like to see if they have one of these in very high grade, their my favorite.I want to place a bid.
