Pictured is a 1763 Maria Theresa 1-Poltura that arrived today... As with a thread that I posted yesterday with a Scottish Bawbee, pursuant to Numismatic Notes and Monographs, No. 135, Coinage for Colonial Virginia, Eric P. Newman, (c)1956, pg.33, a specimen of this type and year was also discovered during the renovation of Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. As with the Bawbee, the discovery confirmed that at least one specimen [of this type] had been indeed in circulation sometime in Virginia's colonial times. Though the specimen is quite worn, I believe it does make for a somewhat satisfactory addition to my "Colonial Williamsburg" collection. This is the type of issue that I consider "gem circulated" in that the wear and age is terrific and whatever small problems the coin has in terms of verdigris are minor in the overall scheme of things. It looks wonderful.
