Thanks for showing us these coins. Have a few Hungarian coins myself, except I'm a lousy photographer. :) By the way (and you may well know this but let me add it anyway), the "KB" mintmark on the earlier pieces refers to a place that has one of the oldest operating mints in the world but is in Slovakia today: Kremnica (in Hungarian: Körmöcbánya, hence the KB). Modern coins from Hungary coins all have the Budapest (BP) mintmark.

The smallest denomination these days is the 5 forint coin. About a year ago a new 200 forint coin was introduced which again shows the Chain Bridge, the oldest and most famous bridge in Budapest. The attached image shows the coin card, but the piece is a regular circulating coin. Diameter is 28.3 mm, weight 9 g, bimetallic.

Great coins Siberian Man! Thanks for posting. I owe my love for the hobby of coin collecting to my Grandfather who emigrated from Hungary to southern California after WWII to flee the communist regime. He passed parts of his coin and stamp collections to me. Hungary also produces some beautiful stamps.

I've posted a Hungarian coin I inherited from him. It is a 5 pengo piece dated 1939. It's a good sized coin, roughly US silver dollar sized. The obverse depicts Miklos Horthy. His title at the time was: "His Serene Highness the Regent of the Kingdom of Hungary". He was an Admiral in the Austro-Hungarian Navy in the first World War who eventually became the leader of Hungary in the inter war period and most of WWII until he was deposed in 1944.

The reverse of this coin depicts the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Hungary.

Wow, great Hungarian collection siberian man.... you certainly do have a good variety of different countries in your collection. Hungarian coins are quite beautiful, I always especially liked the Madonna and child reverse.
I only have one coin from Hungary, a 1673 15 krajczar.
