As far as the internet tells me, there were no dimes minted in 1816.

Any photos or link to the auction.

I just wanted to express concern. I didn't want to risk speculating on the cause.

I think my $1,000,000 bid was unwarranted because I thought it was unique.

I need an uncirculated half dime for my nickel type set. :)

forget about the cleaned description, it looks like a hole was punched (started) on the reverse at about 6 o'clock.

I saw that and thought that was gunk, because holes don't usually look like that.

Meh, we'll see. Compared to what I saw on heritage, $40 is nothing though.

I'm no US dime expert, but assuming that isn's a partial hole, that seems like a fairly good deal. You'll have to let us know...

not to mention the scratches all over the front, harshly cleaned.. but still a nice coin.

You overpaid. Problem coins will always be problem coins. Respectfully submitted as my own opinion, and respectful of those with differing viewpoints....MIke

I didn't overpay, not by a long shot actually. You should check the prices on heritage. I mean, at least in terms of 'market value'.
